WHR: Palama Settlement Beautification Project; 6-16-18
Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

I would like to extend a warm Aloha to all of you who showed up bright and early this past Saturday at the Palama Settlement to participate in our last community service project for the 2017-2018 Rotary Year.  It was a last minute project that was well attended by many of you who brought your friends and your Keiki. We made the best of a warm day, removing 2-4” of top soil and by replacing it with gravel and 5 planters. It’s truly remarkable what a few of us can do in less than two-hours time.

I hope all of you have physically recovered and are ready to take on more projects for next year as your new chair, Mona Choy-Beddow takes over.  I told her that West Honolulu Rotarians are particularly fond of extremely strenuous, labor-intensive community service projects so she’s preparing a slate of activities which will no-doubt have you running to the medicine cabinet repeatedly, looking for that Costco family-sized bottle of Motrin.  I’m looking forward to doing many more projects with you in the coming Rotary Year!

Aloha,
Richard

Congratulations!
Congratulation to the new President, Stan Wong his Board members and committee chairs for incoming (2018-2019) Rotary year!

Kyoto West RC Youths Exchange Program 2018
Dear members,

Our sister Club, Kyoto West R. C. has formally put in an request to send 3 female youths, age 16, 17 (sisters) & 21 to our club, from 7/30 to 8/10 for 10 nights.  This is the first time for the 3 girls to visit Hawaii.

Our long time program supporter, P.P. Gayle Lau, will host them for 3 nights 8/8-8/10,  P.P. Derek will host 3 nights 8/2 - 8/4, Thomas Jansson will host from 8/5-8/7, thank you to Gayle, Derek and Thomas for opening your homes to host the girls.  We are looking for homes to host 7/30-8/2.

Also we are asking your support to help either host the girls or take them out for day activities.

Looked back into history, we formed sister club relationship with Kyoto West RC back in Oct 21, 1974, since then, many of our club members' next generation participated in the program, and they'd a memorable time.  Wyatt & Cory gave the same feedback who visited Kyoto West RC last August, and 3 months ago, 15 of our members & spouses traveled to Kyoto to celebrate their 60th anniversary.

Thomas and myself will plan the sign up sheet for activities.  We really appreciate all the help from our Rotarians.

Mahalo and Aloha,
