Carvalho, MBA is the Director of Development & Community Relations for IHS, The Institute for Human Services. In his capacity, Kimo is the spokesperson for the organization and is tasked with operating communications, marketing, donor development and government relations programs. His background started as a Paramedic working for the City of New Orleans and as a Disaster Medical Service Provider for FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. Kimo holds a B.S. from Tulane University, an MBA from Hawaii Pacific University, is an East-West Center Journalism Fellow, and is one of PBN’s 40 under 40 Class of 2015. After leaving Tulane Medical School in 2007, Kimo returned home to begin a career in marketing and communications. He’s assisted in some of Hawaii’s landmark initiatives, including the inscription of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument as a World Heritage Site and the development of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative. While at IHS, Kimo has assisted with rebuilding the organizations brand communications, partnered with local and national media making homelessness Hawaii's #1 issue, assisted in building out new programs including the visitor industry's response to homelessness in Waikiki, and has increased its private donor and volunteer support base since he began in 2014.
