Burns School of Medicine. She has been the Director on Healthy Aging of the Mini-Medical School since 2020 at the John A Burns School of Medicine and is the Academic Medical Director at Queen's Medical group. Dr. Masaki has been performing aging and Dementia research for over 30 years and is Director of Biomedical Research and at Kuakini Medical Center. She has been Clinical Director and investigator for many studies such as Kuakini Honolulu Heart Program, Honolulu-Asia Aging Study, Hawaii Life Span study, Hawaii Health Span Study, Women's Health Initiative Memory Study, to mention a few.
Dr Masaki is the Director of the John A. Hartford Foundation Center of Excellence in Geriatrics at the University of Hawaii. She is the Principal Investigator and Director in several Grant programs on Aging which has brought recognition to our University of Hawaii as one of seven national training centers for aging research.
Dr. Kamal Masaki has received numerous teaching and research awards and was selected by Hawaii physicians and awarded "The Best Doctors in America " three times. She is a co-author on over 300 publications in scientific journals. Please join in at our February 2nd Rotary meeting and hear from Dr Kamal about healthy aging and super agers.

The speaker is Karen Motosue, one of three 1980 original founders of Hawaii Heritage Center. Karen Motosue serves as VOLUNTEER administrator, grant writer, fund raiser, Chinatown tour guide and gallery manager trainer,janitor, oversees the Archives and Historic Library development, and coordinates various public education and cultural preservation activities. She has been HHC's Vice-President on the HHC Board of Directors since 1980. The two other original founders are Larry F.C, Ching (Highway Construction Owner and past President of the Chinese Chamber and United Chinese Society) and Agnes Conrad (Director of Hawaii State Archives for over 25 years). The Hawaii Heritage Center was founded in October 1980 to preserve the history and heritage of Hawaii's diverse multicultural community and Hawaii's Chinatown heritage. HHC is a 501-C3 educational non-profit eleemosynary entity located since 1980 in Honolulu's Chinatown Historic District. Current programs include operating the Larry and Beatrice Ching Multicultural Gallery at 1040 Smith Street (between King and Hotel Streets), the Chinatown FOOD, History and Culture Walking Tour, Historic Library Collection, and Archives focusing on Hawaii's immigrant heritage. HHC's volunteer Board of Directors oversees its operations and has_ managed HHC to be a selfsustaining entity thanks to generous donors, receiving NO funding from the City or State for it's general operations. HHC's current President is Walter T.C. Ching, a member of this Rotary Club. The Multicultural Gallery has exhibits on the Chinese, Filipinos, Greeks, Japanese, Jews, Portuguese, Puerto Ricans and Scots of Hawaii.
