WHR Community Service Project: Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project - Food Distribution at Keehi Lagoon on Tuesday, June 2, 2020; 2:45 pm to 4 pm

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I hope everyone is excited that Hawaii is moving toward reopening our economy as we are approaching the fourth month of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces at our TBD meeting place in the very near future.

We have yet another unique opportunity as Rotarians to help those in our community.  Our club has partnered up with the Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project to provide volunteers to help transport food from the vans carrying donated food to the distribution stations at Keehi Lagoon on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, from 2:45 pm to 4 pm. The Club will also provide a cash donation to cover a portion of the cost of the food.

Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project is a John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) student-run free clinic staffed by volunteers, including:

·         University of Hawaii premedical students

·         JABSOM medical students

·         University of Hawaii and Tripler Army Medical Center resident physicians

·         University of Hawaii faculty and community attending physicians

The mission of the Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project is to improve quality and access to health care for Hawaii’s homeless, while increasing student and physician awareness and understanding of the homeless and their healthcare needs. The project was founded in August of 2005 and currently provides free medical services to sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals, through weekly student-run free clinics per at nine sites across Oahu. In addition to these clinics, we also utilize our mobile health van for outreach to other unsheltered homeless populations on Oahu and to provide special events for the keiki at the shelters.

Rotary Club volunteers will be asked to assist in carrying the food to the distribution stations at Keehi Lagoon so there will be no physical contact between the volunteers and the individuals who are expected to appear at this event to receive the food.

If you would like to volunteer for this event or donate funds to sponsor this event, please note your participation by clicking on the doodle link which follows:
