The Mary Kawena Puku'i Award Honoring Hardy Spoehr
Message from President Stan...

Our Mary Kawena Pukui Award luncheon was a great success due to the superb leadership of co-chairmen Kristi Hirota-Schmidt, Glen Suzuki, and Derek Tenn .  Nalani Blaisdell did a  thorough and accurate background review and study of Mary Kawena Pukui and Hardy Spoehr.  Nalani insured that there would be many willing to share in this celebration of Hardy’s contribution to the Hawaiian community.  Wes Fong secured excellent PR coverage of this event. The turnout was greater than 80 and everyone agreed the awardee and his presentation was beyond expectation. I believe this MKP presentation will be the gold standard for future MKP awards because Hardy had this very special and close connection to the Pukui family.  Our membership participation was great and I thank all of you for your continued support!

Help to end polio now
Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative 30 years ago, the incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000 cases a year to just 22 cases in 2017. To sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, Rotary has committed to raising US$50 million per year in support of global polio eradication efforts. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to previously polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk.
Your donation helps Rotary and its partners reach every child with the polio vaccine. Thanks to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, your contribution will be tripled, getting us even closer to a polio-free world.
