Veterans Day
Veterans Day is always observed on November 11.  We are dark, have no meeting on Friday, November 10th in order to celebrate Veterans Day, a holiday to honor all service member. World War I officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, but the fighting actually ended seven months before then, when the Allies and Germany put into effect an armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Due to this, November 11th is considered Veterans Day.  Thank you to club members, Ed, Walter, Gayle, Cleigh, Wes, Stan, Doug, Jeff P. and anyone we missed on this list for servicing our country.
WHR Foundation stats
Today, PDG Del Green gave us an informative presentation about The Rotary Foundation and Club Foundation Chair had a quiz.  To expand on this, our club members donated $29k in 2019-20, $17k in 2020-21, and $16k in 2021-22.  The District takes an average of the annual fund SHARE giving and then divides the grant amount from Rotary to allocation to the clubs based on their giving.  This Rotary Year in grant funds, we have $4,840 for club grants and $5,104 for global grants, some of which needs to be matched with club cash (or in our case, funds from our club foundation.) With the club matching cash, we have $7,744 for community service projects and $10,208 for global grants, if we match the allocated amount.  These are the projects that we discussed at the club assembly and have been approved by Rotary International.

PGC Thanksgiving Project  Nov 22
Our club agreed to again participate in the Thanksgiving project with Pacific Gateway Center.  Volunteers are needed to distribute the Walmart gift cards to clients at the Umi Street facility.  If you are interested in volunteering 4-6pm, please sign up on the signup sheet: HERE .  As we heard from Deputy Director Terrina Wong, PGC serves refugees, immigrants, under served population and most recently Ukrainian refugees and Maui fire victims.  This is the 4th year in providing a Thanksgiving holiday gift.  Rather than a traditional Thanksgiving meal, we were informed that the clients would prefer Walmart gift cards to purchase items needed.
