Thirty families (about 115 individuals) are moving into their new homes on January 12th at Kahauiki Village. Six months ago, aio Foundation broke ground to start this amazing project involving the State, City, private companies, organizations and friends and families. West Honolulu Rotary can be proud that we had a hand in getting these homeless families into a permanent home by putting together needed household items and by painting, taping, cleaning the units. Our club also provided the door mats for each unit. Richard Ing and Naomi Masuno picked up the mats and delivered them to Kahauiki, put them at each door step. Connie Mitchell, Institute for Human Services, sent this message: "Mahalo for taking the initiative and adding that welcoming touch for our families! Blessings on you all, Connie".
This picture was taken on the Move in Day of a little girl who will be living there. she thanked all the people who were involved in giving her a new home. Mel Kaneshige said it was a "Moving" Day too because it was moving to hear the speeches about what these homes meant to the families and what a difference this makes for them. We heard about dreams coming true, about hope and a promise of a future. Lots of tears of joy. Connie Mitchell said to Rotary, "this will go a long way to helping them get started! You guys are awesome!!"
