Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Thank you to all of the Rotarians who donated to Farrington High School’s Act of Kindness (“AoK”) program. The program continues through the remainder of the school year so if you have gently used Aloha Shirts, Stuffed Animals and Children’s Reading Books that you would like to donate, please bring them to our regular meeting or call me to arrange for delivery/pick-up.
Kathleen Shiramizu, a fellow Rotarian, FHS Educator and the coordinator of the AoK Project has recently given me the following update on the program as well as the attached Thank You Card addressed to our Club members, is attached:
November was the start of our AoK gifting, which will continue throughout the year. Although we gifted a handful of Aloha shirts to FHS students and staff, we realized that we were lacking in inventory on sizes. We are in need of smalls as well as sizes above XL - 5XL's. Our students are quite large as we would like to gift those in our sports programs.
Regarding our donation of books and stuffed animals bundles, we were able to gift 50 bundles to the Leadership in Disabilities & Achievement in Hawaii's School Readiness Project, and 20 book bundles to the Early School (preschool aged children from 18 months to 3 years old) in the Moiliili-UH area.
Your generous donations provide my Life Skills students with authentic prevocational production skills training along with the Rotary concept of 'Service Above Self'. In their language of understanding, it is showing compassion for others and acknowledging the goodness in each person. Our mission of "Helping Us, Helping Others" will go far. In time, people will get it and the world will be a better place.
Sincerely,
Kathy
