American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

For Friday, Oct 25th, the presentation will be from the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. AFSP's mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. We fund research to improve interventions, train clinicians in suicide prevention, and advocate for policy that will save lives. We work to find better ways to reach those who suffer, and encourage schools, workplaces, and communities to make mental health a priority.

Welcome our newest members Michael Nagamine and Harry Hui. Harry is retired, but previously worked for the Department of Navy and is sponsored by Elvira Lo. Michael is a Branch Manager for American Savings Bank located at their main branch downtown and is sponsored by Wes Fong.

Fern Elementary Literacy Project

On Oct 16, President Stan and Sandy, Grace and Naomi attended the Fern Elementary School assembly. Students were awarded for Perfect Attendance, learning achievements and more. West Honolulu Rotary was on hand to present reading award medals. Grant funds from Rotary International and our club Foundation were used to purchase the medals. Principal Glenn Miyasato expresses his appreciation for the support our club has given the school. Thank you for Community Service Chair, Richard Ing, for executing this project.

World Polio day October 24

October 24th is World Polio Day, a day when Rotarians, public health advocates, and supporters focus on raising awareness and resources for the worldwide effort to eradicate polio.
