POST Community Project:

On June 2, 10 brave souls ventured to a National Guard-secured area at Keehi Lagoon to deliver a teri chicken hot meal to 23 homeless individuals who were quarantined and confined to tents. The individuals were very thankful for the meal and a cold drink.  Their daily meals are MREs, so you can imagine that a tasty hot meal would be welcomed.  Thank you for Kahu John Vaughn for arranging the food preparation with the Hawaii Baptist Disaster Response team and the following members who participated:  Caroline and Doug Yee, Sharon and Cleigh Pang, Jeff Ventura, Stan Wong, Rod Moriyama, Aimee Doud, John Vaughn and Naomi Masuno.

This community service project to provide occasional hot meals when the HOME van makes a site visit was brainchild of Dr. James Ham, an ER Doctor at Straub and the President of the RC of Honolulu Sunset. The H.O.M.E.  (Homeless Outreach / Medical Education) van is there every Saturday and Tuesdays.  The UH Med students were there on site to provide medical attention and monitoring to the individuals. The camp is actively patrolled by HPD and the National Guardsmen guard the entrances.

West Honolulu donation of 180 Masks and 200 Mask Kits
Last month, 180 Rotary Masks donated by the West Honolulu Rotary Club were delivered to the Palolo Chinese Home by Past President Wes Fong and District Governor Elect Naomi Masuno. The Administrator expressed their gratitude as the 130 residents can use the masks, and the medical masks will be kept for the staff.

Wes and Naomi also delivered 200 Rotary face mask kits donated by the West Honolulu Rotary Club along with personal donations from Wes and Naomi, to the Lanakila Senior Multipurpose Center. Several of the senior members used the kits to sew masks to be given to others. The center serves over 2000 senior citizens and is managed by Catholic Charities Hawaii.

Subject: RI Convention

All D5000 Rotarians,

Aloha,

Wanted to send out a gentle reminder to encourage everyone to sign up for the first ever virtual Rotary International Convention.  Can't beat the cost, it's FREE.  RI President Mark believes we will set the record for the number of attendees at an RI convention.  He's very excited about the convention, so come be a part of it.  Easiest way to sign up is just go to the D5000 website.

Speaking of conventions, as your DGND I get the dubious honor of chairing the D5000 sign up for the RI 2021 convention in Taipei.  Started doing a little research and put together an info sheet, attached, that I hope is helpful.  First up though is to register for the convention.  As most of you are aware the best time and most cost effective time to sign up is at the current year convention, 2020.  Of course there is no physical RI convention this year so wanted to send out a heads up so folks can start planning.  In summary, more detail attached and much more at the website:

-  Best rate 20-26 June during the Virtual RI Convention

-  RI will totally refund your registration fee if the convention is cancelled

-  Hotel information is not available at this time.  However I would like to get a feel for how many are interested in a group reservation?  Will send out more information as soon as Experient and RI open up for registration.

-  Host Hospitality Night seems to always sell out, so sign up early.

-  Lot's more info to follow as we move forward.

Looking forward to a great time in Taipei with a bunch of D5000 Rotarians.

Thanks,
Randy
