Speaker for June 5, 2026

Speaker for June 5:

Fern Elementary School principal Glen Miyasato has tentatively accepted the invitation to speak.  He is recovering from a hip replacement surgery.  Fern School is very grateful for the West Honolulu Rotarians. Mr. Miyasato was recognized as Hawaii's 2023 National Distinguished Principal.  He will be sharing about Fern's school culture and DOE public schools in general.

Speaker for June 19:
is Tom Wojszynski   (pronounced Wō zin ski)
Tom Wojszynski is a retired US Air Force officer who, after visiting family in Hawai'i for over 40 years, made Hawai'i Island his permanent home with his wife Julie in 2022. He is the founder of TWOJ2 LLC, a boutique technology consulting firm based on Hawai'i Island.

Tom is deeply engaged in the local community. He sits on the Mayor's Veterans Advisory Committee for Hawai'i Island, serves as Vice Commander of The American Legion Post #4 Kohala, and he is President of the West Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery Development and Expansion Association. In January 2024, he served as Chief Operating Officer for The Wall That Heals - Hawai'i County Committee for the first-ever display in Hawai'i, held in Hilo.

Tom serves as a Commissioner representing Hawai'i Island on the Hawai'i America250 Commission. He designed, built and manages the Commission's website and will share what the fiftieth state has planned.
Hawaii Island Commissioner on Hawaii America 250 (discussion on how Hawaii will celebrate USA 250th birthday on July 4th)
At the speaker's request, I  would like to have this website shared with our club members in advance of Tom Wojszynski's presentation at our club's final meeting of the year on June 19th. His talk is very relevant as Hawaii and the rest of the nation celebrate our country's 250th birthday on July 4th.  Happy Independence Day!

West Honolulu Rotary Foundation update at the 3/21 Assembly

Congratulations and deeply appreciation to CPA Ronald Young, our WHRF Chair, and CPA Walter Chang, who diligently dedicated over 100 hours to completing and filing the IRS Form 1023. Thanks to their hard work and commitment, our 501(c)(3) status—lost in August 2025—has been successfully reinstated WHRF Non-Profit Status as of the end of February 2026.

The West Honolulu Rotary Foundation was incorporated on May 16, 1983, marking over four decades of service and commitment to the community.

The original incorporators were members of the West Honolulu Rotary Club and included Past District Governors Albert Hastings (1965–66), Ralph Honda (1971–72), and Ronald Young (1990–91).

Albert Hastings made a significant philanthropic contribution of over $262,000 to establish a scholarship program, now known as the Al Hastings Fund in Sept 1983.

Ronald Young played a key role in forming the Foundation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. He prepared and submitted the necessary documentation to the Internal Revenue Service, successfully securing tax-exempt status. The donation was structured as an endowment fund in Al Hastings' name to ensure long-term sustainability.

Lincoln Ishida, also a club member, drafted the original Charter of Incorporation and Bylaws. These documents, including Exhibits A and B, were filed with the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) and approved on May 16, 1983.

Today, Ronald Young remains the only living incorporator.  Lincoln Ishida, who authored the original Charter and Bylaws, are still available to monitor the compliance of the By-Law.  We are so fortune to have this 2 dedicated Rotarians to continue to practice the Rotary spirit "Service Above Self"
