Miki Yajima - President of Sister Club Tokyo West
Former West Honolulu Rotary Club member Miki Yajima is the current President of our sister club Tokyo West. He shared with me the youtube video of their joint Zoom meeting/sister club signing ceremony with the Rotary Club of Chicago (AKA Rotary One, the first rotary club where rotary began).

He is excited to come to Hawaii when we have the new date for our 70th Anniversary celebration.

IOLANI PALACE TOUR - Thurs Sept 24, 2020

Hi Fellow Rotarians,

I hope everyone is doing okay during these unprecedent times. Hopefully I will be able to give you some good news.

Thanks to the amazing assistance from Wes Fong, Jeff Pang, and Mike Kato, a special tour of Iolani Palace has been reserved for our club. Here are some details:

DateThursday, September 24. Due to various reasons, Iolani Palace can accommodate us on a Thursday instead of a Friday.

Time: Since we are following the 10 or less mandate, we will have two or three separate groups. The first group will start at 11:30, the second group at 12:00, and if needed the third group will start at 12:30.

Costs: There is a cost of $19.95 per person. Please stay tuned if the members have to pay this fee, we are checking if this fee can be covered by the club.

Guests: Yes, guest are invited. If you do bring a guest, you will more than likely have to pay for your guest.

How to Sign Up: Please click onto the Doodle link to sign up:

https://doodle.com/poll/rgd3r3meis4mkbxr

Additional information will be sent out in the very near future regarding parking, etc.

It is not too often we have an exclusive opportunity to tour the only royal palace in the United States (according to Google), so I hope you can make. Plus another benefit is you get to see everyone in person versus on Zoom. On a side note, there might be a prize if you can guess what brand of shoes Kristi is wearing on the day of the tour (inside joke).

Thank you and please check your emails for additional information.

RI Convention 2021

Subject: RI Convention

All D5000 Rotarians,

Aloha,

Wanted to send out a gentle reminder to encourage everyone to sign up for the first ever virtual Rotary International Convention.  Can't beat the cost, it's FREE.  RI President Mark believes we will set the record for the number of attendees at an RI convention.  He's very excited about the convention, so come be a part of it.  Easiest way to sign up is just go to the D5000 website.

Speaking of conventions, as your DGND I get the dubious honor of chairing the D5000 sign up for the RI 2021 convention in Taipei.  Started doing a little research and put together an info sheet, attached, that I hope is helpful.  First up though is to register for the convention.  As most of you are aware the best time and most cost effective time to sign up is at the current year convention, 2020.  Of course there is no physical RI convention this year so wanted to send out a heads up so folks can start planning.  In summary, more detail attached and much more at the website:

-  Best rate 20-26 June during the Virtual RI Convention

-  RI will totally refund your registration fee if the convention is cancelled

-  Hotel information is not available at this time.  However I would like to get a feel for how many are interested in a group reservation?  Will send out more information as soon as Experient and RI open up for registration.

-  Host Hospitality Night seems to always sell out, so sign up early.

-  Lot's more info to follow as we move forward.

Looking forward to a great time in Taipei with a bunch of D5000 Rotarians.

Thanks,
Randy
