Patrick J. Foehr My name is Patrick J Foehr, but I go by PJ. I have been an educator for 35 years as a teacher, administrator and consultant in elementary and secondary schools, in private and public schools (mostly public), and worked with a variety of socio-economic levels and second language learners. I lived and taught in Saipan for two and one half years back in the 1990s. I currently work as the Deputy Director for the Hawaii State Public Charter School Commission. I I have three children ages 26, 24, and 22- Mikaela, Markus and Elle. I moved my family to Hawaii fifteen years ago and my children were blessed to grow up in such a beautiful place. MyWhy: Through interpersonal connection, create genuine and meaningful relationships that empower individuals to lead and act, using their uniqueness to influence those around them. EXPERIENCE Hawaii State Public Charter School Commission (October 2017- Present) Federal Programs manager-- School Lead Interim Deputy Director Deputy Director Weare the sole Charter School Authorizer in the state of Hawaii. Our portfolio consists of 38 schools across five islands. Our schools are Hawaiian culture focused (place based, language based, community based) and serve a variety of socioeconomic demographics providing instruction in diverse modes (project-based, traditional, virtual/blended, etc). Wereport to our Commissioners and execute the daily work of engaging schools in contract monitoring and compliance. ● Appointed Interim Deputy Director in February 2020; Prior to that, I led our Achievement Team which consisted of half of our office personnel; prior to that I worked directly with our schools receiving Federal dollars to support underserved students. foehrWARD THINKING, Owner/Education Consultant ● Contracted with Hawaii Catholic Schools (2011- 2017) to provide principal coaching and professional development support for Catholic schools in Hawaii. ● Supported and generated an update of the Hawaii Catholic Schools academic standards in ELA and Math ● Workedcollaboratively with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to support instructional and leadership development and coaching around 21st Century skills. ● Othervarious small contracts with schools focused on effective communication with Parents and community engagement Prior School Leadership experience I have been a school administrator since 1996 in California and Hawaii. I have worked as a Principal, Assistant Principal, District/state level administrator and consultant in both private and public settings. I have worked in Elementary and Secondary schools and spent a year as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Portland coaching teachers in their first year of placement. I have led schools with a variety of student demographics, racial diversity and socio-economic backgrounds. ● Ibeganmyeducation career as a 4th grade teacher. I taught overseas (Saipan) and in secondary school. ● Ihavesignificant experience in the areas of classroom instruction, parent communication and classroom management. ● Ispenttwo years at an International Baccalaureate school in Hawaii. I was the Lower School head as we transitioned to the Primary Years Programme and worked with the Middle School and High School as they implemented the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. ● Pleasecontact me with any questions.
