Sylvia and I just returned from India.

We participated as volunteers in the Rotary international project for the "Eradication of Polio" worldwide.

It has been a big project for Rotary - more than 15 years and nearing $2 billion dollars.

Polio is a terrible disease - it cripples the children for life, physically and emotionally.

I remember in my youth seeing pictures of children hobbling along or crawling on the ground.  I remember horrible images of children in iron lungs.

In India, our group drove out to poor villages to administer the polio vaccine.  All it takes is two drops on the tongue of the child to prevent polio.

In the beginning, 100,000's of children contracted polio.  So far this year, there were 7 cases of polio.
