We will be do a project at the Pacific Gateway Center on Wednesday, November 22.  Several weeks ago, we had Terrina from the Pacific Gateway Center give a talk to our club on the wonderful programs they are doing, especially for the refugees that arrive in Hawaii. After speaking with Terrina, she mentioned this year they prefer to receive gift cards which will help the people they assist, tremendously.
Here are the details:
What: Go down to the center and present the donation plus some other goodies.
When: Wednesday, November 22, 3pm
Time: Late afternoon, the exact time will be determined very soon.
How Many People: As much as we can
What do I have to do: Represent our club and be ready to be in pictures.
RSVP:  Please email me if you are available to attend.
Why: Since this will be the day before Thanksgiving, this will be a good event to get out of doing Thanksgiving things (well, that is what I told my wife).

Thank you,
Glen Suzuki
Rotary Club President 2023-2024

Club Foundation Chair Mike Kato has issued limited time incentives for members that contribute to PolioPlus in the month of October and November:

  • The West Honolulu Rotary Club will gift you 1 Paul Harris Fellow Point for each dollar of your contribution (up to $250 cumulative for PolioPlus and The Rotary Foundation). For example, if you contribute $50, you will earn 100 Paul Harris Fellow Points, instead of just fifty.

  • Any member that contributes in October and November will be entered into a special drawing to earn 200 additional Paul Harris Fellow points that I will gift to the winner (to be announced at our Annual Xmas Dinner).
Please consider donating to The Rotary Foundation and let Mike know..  For your convenience, you can make a payment online at:
Thank you for doing good in the world!

The Genki Ball committee, has come up with a date for the project. Here are some details:
What: Throwing the Genki Balls into the Ala Wai
When: Sunday, February 25, 2024
Time: To be determined. We will probably start in the morning and hopefully end around lunch time (1:00)Where: To be determined. More than likely near the Kapahulu library
The plan is to make and throw about 500 genki balls into the Ala Wai canal.
The reason this event is planned for a Sunday is because the genki ball group already has a company (JTB Hawaii) that reserved all of the Saturdays from January 2024 into next summer. So, the next available date is Sunday, February 25.
The committee is hoping everyone can make it on a Sunday.
Thank you and again, more information will be coming out about the project.
Thank you,
Glen Suzuki

PGC Thanksgiving Project  Nov 22
Our club agreed to again participate in the Thanksgiving project with Pacific Gateway Center.  Volunteers are needed to distribute the Walmart gift cards to clients at the Umi Street facility.  If you are interested in volunteering 4-6pm, please sign up on the signup sheet: HERE .  As we heard from Deputy Director Terrina Wong, PGC serves refugees, immigrants, under served population and most recently Ukrainian refugees and Maui fire victims.  This is the 4th year in providing a Thanksgiving holiday gift.  Rather than a traditional Thanksgiving meal, we were informed that the clients would prefer Walmart gift cards to purchase items needed.
Upcoming WHR Meetings & Events- SAVE THE DATE!
Our holiday party will be on Friday, December 8th at the Outrigger Canoe Club.  Please sign up on the Google sheet.  December 22 is Dark.
